Reading truths

I love reading.

But there are so many books on my reading list right now that it is beyond ridiculous. There simply isn’t enough time to read them all!

However, I came across an absolute gem of wisdom about reading today by Ali Abdaal – a YouTuber, podcaster, soon-to-be author, and ex-Doctor.

You are probably falling into the trap that society has programmed us over basically our whole lives, which is that A) books are these sacred hallowed objects, and B) there is some social status, some prestige associated with finishing a book – reading it cover to cover. … In other words, the number of books we read is purely a vanity metric that we use to impress other people.

Ali Abdaal

Absolute truth!

So I’m going to try something different this year. I’m basically going to follow Ali’s approach to reading non-fiction (will still indulge in fully reading plenty of fiction though) and see how it goes. Watch his video below to hear more about this approach.

Thank you Ali!
